An overseas Filipino worker (OFW), Dafnie Nacalaban, who had been missing for two months, was tragically found decomposing in her employer’s backyard in Kuwait. She had planned to surprise her family by coming home for Christmas.
“We asked her when she planned to come home. She said, ‘I will surprise you in December.’ It turns out that this was her surprise,” said Michael Nacalaban Lensahan, Dafnie’s sister, in a GMA News report.
In their last conversation in May, Dafnie did not mention any problems, according to Michael. The family is now pleading for justice. “Our only wish is that our sister can come home and that she be given justice for whatever happened to her. Why did they do that to her?” she added.
The gruesome discovery came after the suspect’s sibling reported the incident to authorities. This led police to find Dafnie’s body in an advanced state of decomposition. Department of Foreign Affairs Undersecretary Eduardo de Vega confirmed the suspect, who has a prior criminal record, is now in custody.
“The sibling of the suspect informed the police. They investigated and found the body at the house, decomposing for nearly two months,” de Vega said. “We assure the public that the government will do what it can to seek justice. It’s sad that this happened at the end of the year.”
The Nacalaban family is awaiting the repatriation of Dafnie’s remains as they call for swift justice for her untimely death.
