A 36-year-old woman in China, who was previously informed she could not have children due to a medical condition, gave birth just four hours after discovering she was pregnant, according to reports from Chao News and the South China Morning Post.

The woman, identified only by her surname Gong, sought medical attention in December for arm numbness. Initially visiting a local clinic, she was diagnosed with high blood pressure and referred to Zhejiang Provincial People’s Hospital.

Doctors at the hospital ordered an ultrasound after learning that Gong had not experienced a menstrual cycle for several months. The test revealed she was over eight months pregnant, a revelation that shocked her as she had been deemed infertile due to a uterine disorder.

Gong and her husband had previously considered in vitro fertilization (IVF) but were advised against it due to her weight. Hours after the ultrasound, she underwent a caesarean section and welcomed a healthy baby.

“There were only four hours from finding out I was pregnant to the birth of my baby,” Gong said.

Dr. Yang Liwei, an obstetrician at the hospital, explained that some women might not notice pregnancy symptoms or fetal movements, especially if they are overweight. She emphasized the risks of unrecognized pregnancies, noting the lack of prenatal care could jeopardize the health of both mother and child.

A woman in Ohio tragically died after being mauled by her neighbor’s pigs near her residence on Christmas Day, according to CBS News and The Columbus Dispatch reports.

Rebecca Westergaard Rigney was found lifeless in her home along Mink Street on December 25, with injuries to her legs. Police confirmed that the attack involved pigs that had wandered from a neighboring property.

The incident came to light after family members requested a welfare check when Rigney failed to attend a Christmas gathering. Upon arrival, officers spotted a large pig inside her home and discovered two others at a nearby property.

A medical report indicated that Rigney succumbed to blood loss caused by extensive injuries inflicted by livestock. Pataskala Police Chief Bruce Brooks described the incident as unprecedented, calling it a “horrible, horrible situation.”

The pigs involved are currently in quarantine, and while the investigation continues, no criminal charges have been filed against their owner.

A 29-year-old Filipino woman was arrested at the Ninoy Aquino International Airport (NAIA) on Thursday evening, January 9, after authorities found approximately 4.6 kilograms of cocaine hidden in her luggage.

The traveler, who arrived from Sierra Leone via an Ethiopian Air flight, was flagged for inspection by the Bureau of Immigration due to suspicious travel patterns. During a routine baggage scan, a Customs X-ray inspector detected unusual contents, prompting a thorough search.

According to a Phil Star Global report, customs officials uncovered cocaine concealed within the linings of four handbags and one suitcase. The confiscated drugs have an estimated street value of more than P24 million, according to a press release from the Bureau of Immigration.

The operation was carried out by a joint task force composed of the Philippine Drug Enforcement Agency, Philippine National Police Aviation Security Group, Airport Police Department, PNP Drug Enforcement Group, and the National Bureau of Investigation.

The woman is now facing charges under Republic Act 9165, or the Comprehensive Dangerous Drugs Act of 2002, and Republic Act 10863, also known as the Customs Modernization and Tariff Act.

Princess Marcial, the wife of Filipino Olympic bronze medalist Eumir Marcial, has publicly accused her husband of infidelity, manipulation, and abuse. In a detailed Facebook post on Friday, Princess shared that she discovered Eumir’s alleged affair in October 2024 at an Airbnb condominium in Pasay, where she and her sister confronted him and involved local authorities.

Despite disapproval from her family, Princess revealed she gave Eumir multiple chances to reconcile, but claimed his actions only escalated. She alleged that Eumir and his mistress began living together and used their joint savings to build a house in Zamboanga.

“Apparently, he withdrew all our savings and used the money to construct a house for him and his mistress,” she wrote, adding that friends had also seen the pair together.

Princess expressed her intent to pursue legal action and present evidence to the courts. She also shared that Eumir allegedly threatened her, claiming she would receive nothing in their separation.

“This is why I feel strongly about sharing this truth—not only for myself but for women who have experienced abusive marriages and may feel silenced or powerless,” she stated.

The couple, who wed in a beach ceremony in Batangas in October 2021, are now facing a public marital crisis. Princess concluded her post by asking for prayers for healing and safety for her and her family.

A 36-year-old Filipina digital nomad based in Dubai has made history as the first Filipino to travel to all 193 United Nations-recognized countries using solely a Philippine passport. Kach Medina Umandap completed her monumental journey on January 6, 2025, in Sudan, overcoming the challenges of visa restrictions associated with a low-ranked passport.

Umandap’s achievement stands out not only because of her age—accomplishing the feat in her mid-30s—but also because she relied entirely on her Philippine passport, without the advantage of dual citizenship or permanent residency. “This is proof that being Filipino is not a limitation when it comes to exploring the world,” Umandap shared.

A proud member of the Filipino World Travelers (FWT), where she has served as an ambassador since 2023, Umandap uses her platform to inspire other Filipinos to pursue global exploration despite the barriers they may face. Through her blogs Twomonkeystravelgroup.com and Filipinopassport.com, she offers practical tips and insights on how to navigate the world as a Filipino traveler.

Her journey included visits to 26 African countries in 2024, culminating in her arrival in Port Sudan this January. Notably, she became one of the first tourists to visit the region post-conflict, offering hope for the revival of Sudan’s tourism.

Her accomplishment has also drawn international recognition, including being named a finalist in the 2022 NomadMania Travel Awards for the Biggest Low Passport Index Traveler category. According to NomadMania, fewer than 500 people worldwide have achieved the feat of visiting all UN member states, making her success particularly remarkable.

“To my fellow women, Filipinos, and backpackers—yes, you can have the traveling life you want, earn money, and be successful at the same time,” Umandap emphasized, sharing her empowering message in Gala: Adventures of the Most Well-Traveled Filipinos.

Umandap will celebrate her achievement with a homecoming event in Cebu on January 13, 2025. Her inspiring journey can be followed at https://bio.site/kachumandap.

Dubai Police have taken swift action against a motorist caught performing dangerous stunts and driving recklessly in the Al Marmoom area during a rainfall.

Despite repeated warnings urging the public to exercise caution and follow traffic laws during adverse weather conditions, the driver engaged in hazardous activities such as drifting and stunt driving, posing significant threats to public safety.

According to Major General Saif Muhair Al Mazrouei, Acting Assistant Commander-in-Chief for Operations Affairs at Dubai Police, patrol teams observed and promptly intervened in the situation. The vehicle was confiscated, and the driver was fined in accordance with Federal Traffic and Road Laws.

Under Decree No. 30 of 2023, the driver must pay AED 50,000 to recover the impounded vehicle and clear any outstanding fines.

Al Mazrouei reiterated the authorities’ zero-tolerance policy towards reckless driving, emphasizing the potential legal and financial consequences for violators. He stressed that such behaviors endanger lives and disrupt road safety, with offenders facing severe penalties, including prosecution.

The daughter of late Philippine President Ferdinand Marcos Sr., Analisa Josefa Corr, 53, and her partner James Alexander Corr, 45, have agreed to new bail conditions after allegedly causing a disturbance during a flight from Hobart to Sydney. The pair appeared in Sydney Downing Centre Local Court, where their passports were returned under strict terms, including a prohibition on consuming alcohol in airports or on planes while on bail, 9news.com reported.

Ms. Corr, who is a half-sister of current Philippine President Ferdinand “Bongbong” Marcos Jr., is accused of assaulting a passenger outside a plane toilet after the couple reportedly consumed alcohol they brought onboard the December 28 Jetstar flight. Upon landing in Sydney, the two were arrested and charged with failing to comply with cabin crew safety directions and consuming unauthorized alcohol. Ms. Corr faces an additional charge of common assault.

To secure their passports, both agreed to deposit $20,000 each with the court, forfeitable if conditions are breached. Deputy Chief Magistrate Michael Antrum also rejected a request to entirely dispense with Mr. Corr’s bail conditions but allowed the removal of a residential requirement.

Ms. Corr’s lawyer stated that her client required her passport for work on a photography project in Indonesia, where she plans to remain until March. An online biography describes Ms. Corr as a professional photographer based in Queensland.

Jetstar declined to comment on whether the Corrs have been blacklisted but emphasized their zero-tolerance policy on disruptive behavior.

The Philippines failed to meet its projected 7.7 million international tourist arrivals for 2024, recording only 5.9 million due to a sharp decline in Chinese visitors, Tourism Secretary Christina Frasco announced on Friday, January 10.

Frasco cited geopolitical factors and the suspension of electronic visas for Chinese travelers as major reasons behind the drop. The Department of Tourism (DOT) initially anticipated over 2 million Chinese tourists but recorded only 300,000 by the end of the year.

“The barriers to entry into the Philippines, including and chiefly the suspension of the electronic visa, gravely affected the Chinese market for the Philippines,” Frasco said in a Phil Star Global report. The issuance of e-visas was indefinitely halted in December 2023, and the Department of Foreign Affairs has yet to resume the service.

Frasco emphasized that the decline was not related to the closure of Philippine offshore gaming operators (POGOs), which were banned in 2024 due to links to criminal activities, including human trafficking and document fraud.

Despite these challenges, the DOT generated P760 billion in revenue from international tourists, a 9% increase compared to 2023. Frasco attributed this growth to efforts in tapping other markets, with South Korea remaining the top source of foreign visitors.

The DOT achieved this revenue increase despite operating with a significantly reduced marketing budget—down from P1.2 billion in 2023 to P200 million in 2024. The department also faced backlash over its “Love the Philippines” campaign in 2023, which was criticized for using foreign stock footage in its promotional materials.

Filmmaker Darryl Yap, through his legal counsel, has requested the Muntinlupa City Regional Trial Court (RTC) Branch 205 to issue a gag order preventing veteran actor Vic Sotto’s camp from publicly discussing the ongoing cyber libel case. Yap’s camp submitted the motion as they prepare to respond to the petition within five days of receipt, ABS-CBN News reported.

The legal team argued that disclosing information related to the case, which involves Yap’s upcoming film, could cause irreparable damage to the director’s creative work. Yap’s film, The Rapists of Pepsi Paloma, became controversial after its teaser, released on January 1, connected Sotto to the late ‘80s star Pepsi Paloma. The teaser quickly went viral.

The case includes 19 counts of cyber libel and a demand for P35 million in damages. Sotto’s camp claims the teaser contained “malicious and defamatory statements.”

Yap’s motion emphasized the need for compliance with the sub-judice rule, which restricts public commentary on ongoing cases. In a Facebook post, Yap thanked his legal team, led by Atty. Raymond Fortun.

Meanwhile, the court has not yet ordered the deletion of Yap’s film trailer. It issued a Writ of Habeas Data regarding Sotto’s consent but stopped short of requiring content removal. A decision on this matter will be made during a summary hearing on January 15.

Sotto’s lawyer, Enrique dela Cruz, insisted that the writ involves the trailer’s takedown, while Yap’s counsel argued no such order has been issued. Legal experts have weighed in, stating that creative license does not exempt filmmakers from accountability for libelous remarks.

Authorities from the Bangko Sentral ng Pilipinas (BSP) and local police arrested five individuals accused of making jewelry rings from P10 coins in Paliton Beach, San Juan, Siquijor, on Monday, January 6.

The P10 coin, composed of an aluminum bronze inner core and a copper-nickel outer core, was being transformed into rings sold for P1,500 each, BSP was quoted as saying by ABS-CBN News.

“We conducted several test buy operations and confirmed that these individuals were offering the rings, especially to foreigners,” said Mark Fajardo, senior investigation officer of the BSP-Payments and Currency Investigation Group.

The group reportedly completes a ring in just 40 minutes and can produce 20 to 30 rings daily, earning up to ₱50,000 per day. The suspects are not local residents, according to the BSP.

The suspects face charges under Presidential Decree 247, which prohibits the destruction of legal tender coins. “In the Philippines, this is prohibited since the coins are property of the Republic of the Philippines. We should protect them because producing coins is costly,” Fajardo added.

The suspects are now in the custody of the San Juan Municipal Police Station in Siquijor.
