Princess Marcial, the wife of Filipino Olympic bronze medalist Eumir Marcial, has publicly accused her husband of infidelity, manipulation, and abuse. In a detailed Facebook post on Friday, Princess shared that she discovered Eumir’s alleged affair in October 2024 at an Airbnb condominium in Pasay, where she and her sister confronted him and involved local authorities.

Despite disapproval from her family, Princess revealed she gave Eumir multiple chances to reconcile, but claimed his actions only escalated. She alleged that Eumir and his mistress began living together and used their joint savings to build a house in Zamboanga.

“Apparently, he withdrew all our savings and used the money to construct a house for him and his mistress,” she wrote, adding that friends had also seen the pair together.

Princess expressed her intent to pursue legal action and present evidence to the courts. She also shared that Eumir allegedly threatened her, claiming she would receive nothing in their separation.

“This is why I feel strongly about sharing this truth—not only for myself but for women who have experienced abusive marriages and may feel silenced or powerless,” she stated.

The couple, who wed in a beach ceremony in Batangas in October 2021, are now facing a public marital crisis. Princess concluded her post by asking for prayers for healing and safety for her and her family.

Filmmaker Darryl Yap, through his legal counsel, has requested the Muntinlupa City Regional Trial Court (RTC) Branch 205 to issue a gag order preventing veteran actor Vic Sotto’s camp from publicly discussing the ongoing cyber libel case. Yap’s camp submitted the motion as they prepare to respond to the petition within five days of receipt, ABS-CBN News reported.

The legal team argued that disclosing information related to the case, which involves Yap’s upcoming film, could cause irreparable damage to the director’s creative work. Yap’s film, The Rapists of Pepsi Paloma, became controversial after its teaser, released on January 1, connected Sotto to the late ‘80s star Pepsi Paloma. The teaser quickly went viral.

The case includes 19 counts of cyber libel and a demand for P35 million in damages. Sotto’s camp claims the teaser contained “malicious and defamatory statements.”

Yap’s motion emphasized the need for compliance with the sub-judice rule, which restricts public commentary on ongoing cases. In a Facebook post, Yap thanked his legal team, led by Atty. Raymond Fortun.

Meanwhile, the court has not yet ordered the deletion of Yap’s film trailer. It issued a Writ of Habeas Data regarding Sotto’s consent but stopped short of requiring content removal. A decision on this matter will be made during a summary hearing on January 15.

Sotto’s lawyer, Enrique dela Cruz, insisted that the writ involves the trailer’s takedown, while Yap’s counsel argued no such order has been issued. Legal experts have weighed in, stating that creative license does not exempt filmmakers from accountability for libelous remarks.

A Muntinlupa court has directed filmmaker Darryl Yap and his team to take down the teaser and promotional materials for his upcoming film “The Rapists of Pepsi Paloma” after actor and host Vic Sotto filed a petition for a writ of habeas data.

The Muntinlupa Regional Trial Court (RTC) Branch 205 issued the order on Monday, prohibiting Yap from further distributing, posting, or sharing any related materials on social media. The court cited potential violations of Sotto’s rights and privacy.

“This court order protects our client’s rights as the teaser includes sensitive allegations,” said Sotto’s lawyer, Atty. Enrique Dela Cruz, in a statement. He added, “The posting and sharing of such materials must cease until the issue is fully resolved.”

The teaser, which allegedly accused Sotto of rape, has reportedly subjected him, his wife Pauleen Luna, and their child to threats and bullying. Sotto’s camp argued that the accusations, which are sensitive and personal, have caused undue harm to their family.

In addition to the court order, Sotto earlier filed 19 cyberlibel cases against Yap over the controversial teaser.

Actress-comedienne Rufa Mae Quinto voluntarily surrendered to the National Bureau of Investigation (NBI) following an arrest warrant issued against her late last year.

Quinto faces 14 charges of violating Section 8 of the Securities Regulation Code, linked to Dermacare, the same company involved in the case of former actress Neri Naig-Miranda, who was briefly detained in November.

In a statement, Quinto denied any involvement in fraudulent activities, asserting she was only a brand ambassador. “I categorically deny the baseless accusations against me,” she said, pledging full cooperation with authorities to resolve the matter legally.

Her lawyer, Atty. Mary Louise Reyes, confirmed Quinto’s plans to post bail, emphasizing her voluntary surrender was proof of her intent to face the charges head-on.

Quinto arrived at Ninoy Aquino International Airport (NAIA) Terminal 1 from San Francisco with her family on January 8. She underwent a medico-legal examination before appearing in the Pasay court that issued the warrant.

NBI-NAIA Chief Jimmy De Leon affirmed the coordination between Quinto’s legal team and the bureau for her surrender. The actress’s case will now proceed through the legal process.

Actor and TV host Vic Sotto plans to file a formal case against director Darryl Yap regarding his controversial film The Rapists of Pepsi Paloma, which features references to Sotto in its trailer. According to a News5 report, the case will be lodged at the Muntinlupa City Regional Trial Court on January 9, as confirmed by Sotto’s legal counsel.

Yap released the trailer for the movie on January 1, sparking heated discussions online. The film, set to be released in February, stars Rhed Bustamante as Pepsi Paloma, Gina Alajar, Mon Confiado, and other notable actors. It revisits the life of Pepsi Paloma, a Filipino-American actress and one of the “Softdrink Beauties” of the 1980s, who gained notoriety following her involvement in a scandal involving allegations against prominent comedians Vic Sotto, Joey de Leon, and Richie D’Horsie.

The inclusion of Sotto’s name in the trailer has drawn sharp reactions. While Yap claims the film aims to shed light on the late actress’s experiences and not malign individuals, Sotto’s camp views the mention as defamatory. Sotto’s legal team has emphasized their intent to protect his reputation, especially given the enduring public interest in the 1982 case, which Paloma eventually withdrew after receiving a public apology.

The film has generated mixed reactions from the public, with some supporting its bold approach to revisiting a sensitive issue, while others express concerns about reopening old wounds. Yap, meanwhile, defends his work, calling it a truthful retelling of Paloma’s tragic story.

Pepsi Paloma, whose real name was Delia Dueñas Smith, rose to fame in the 1980s as part of the Softdrink Beauties—a trio of actresses known for their sultry image. Her life was cut short in 1985 at the age of 17, officially ruled as a suicide. However, speculations about the circumstances of her death persist to this day.

The camp of Filipino chess prodigy Bince Rafael Operiano has addressed inaccuracies in a viral post by social media personality Project Nightfall, whose real name is Agon Hare. The post claimed that Bince, then nine years old, traveled alone to Thailand for a chess competition in 2022 and spent three nights sleeping on airport benches.

In a Facebook post on January 7, Woman Grandmaster Janelle Mae Frayna, a three-time Philippine women’s chess champion, criticized Hare for spreading what she called “fake news” to gain attention. “They dramatize, exaggerate, and fabricate lies to make their news ‘more appealing,’” Frayna wrote, emphasizing that the claims were false and misrepresented the events. She added that Bince had a legal guardian, National Master Edmundo Gatos, with him throughout the trip.

Frayna also pointed out that Hare’s post made it appear as though the events were recent, despite taking place two years ago. She urged social media influencers to fact-check before reposting such stories.

The viral post by Hare, who has over 17 million followers, alleged that Bince traveled alone and endured difficult conditions due to financial constraints. The chess prodigy’s official Facebook page, however, categorically denied the claims, stating, “Bince was with the Philippine delegation team, and the Philippine Sports Commission (PSC) covered his travel expenses.”

Albay 2nd District Representative Fernando Cabredo previously acknowledged in a 2022 Facebook post that Bince and his father had spent nights at the airport before the competition while waiting for funds. However, Cabredo clarified that Bince was never without a guardian in Thailand and only traveled ahead of his father, who arrived later after securing additional support.

Bince’s participation in the Eastern Asia Youth Chess Championship in Bangkok from November 4-13, 2022, resulted in a gold trophy and four medals, solidifying his status as a rising chess star. At the time, he had already won national chess competitions, including the Boys Under 9 category of the National Youth and Schools Chess Championships.

Despite the backlash, the Operiano family has asked for privacy and an end to the circulation of misinformation. “Please stop this post. This matter was resolved in 2022,” the family stated on social media. The National Chess Federation of the Philippines has also debunked claims of Bince traveling alone, citing strict regulations that ensure minors cannot travel internationally without an adult.

Award-winning actress Jodi Sta. Maria is set to take a step back from the limelight as she embarks on a new chapter in her academic journey, pursuing a master’s degree in clinical psychology.

In a media conference on January 6, the 42-year-old actress announced her plans to focus on her studies after the finale of her current series, Lavender Fields, airs on January 24. Jodi revealed that she intends to specialize in family and marriage therapy, envisioning a future where she can make mental health care more accessible by opening a small clinic.

“I want to do more than just act. There’s life outside showbusiness, and I realized I can still wear another hat,” Jodi shared, explaining her desire to explore new opportunities while continuing to help others.

This pursuit aligns with the value her family instilled in her to prioritize education, even as she built a successful career in acting. Jodi earned her Bachelor of Science in Psychology from Southville International School and Colleges in 2021, balancing her studies with her responsibilities as a mother and actress.

Reflecting on her experience as a student, Jodi shared how much she enjoyed the process. “Being in a classroom, learning new things—it sparks joy for me. I didn’t get special treatment as a student; I was treated just like everyone else, with the same deadlines and expectations.”

While she prepares for her academic pursuits, Jodi expressed excitement about exploring her potential outside of acting, highlighting her belief that one’s purpose can extend beyond a single profession.
